Welcome to matthewmillen.com
This is an online blog and gallery. It is designed to keep track of memorable places I have visited and the photos taken there. Although the pictures are the end result my main interest is the walk and scenery itself and to offer advice to others for days out and trips they may like to plan themselves.
The blog is primarily aimed at my friends and family so I can publish my pictures without having to email them but hopefully anyone with an interest in walking and photography will find it interesting.
My photography background is amateur at the best but I have been walking and hiking for years as part of Venture Scout, Duke of Edinburgh and World Challenge expeditions. Now my time is slightly more limited I have to stick to single day walks but I will be commenting on some of the long distance paths England has to offer.
Most of the photographs here where taken with a Samsung Digimax Cyber 530 although any taken since January 2010 are with a much smarter Canon EOS 450D, if the pictures have improved I will leave for you to decide.
My academic background in geography with sections of landscape history means I have a particular focus on ancient monuments while my own nature (as my long suffering walking partner will attest) is to climb to the top of the largest available hill.
On a more personal note as you can probably guess my name is Matthew Millen, I’m a 28 year old IT Technician living in the South East of England. Aside from walking and photography my interests include cycling, golf and reading.
